I’m starting a weekly/bi-weekly series of posts called ‘GreenHacks’ with very simple, easy ways to be "greener" and make life simpler. If you’d like to share a Green Hack to be included in this series, please contact me, I will credit your website on mine.

Don’t Wash Your Clothes
One thing I do to save money, energy and resources is to wear clothes a couple of times before washing them. Of course I always change my undies daily! ;) But the rest? Why bother if it’s not visibly dirty. Washing clothes excessively is what wears them out the most and so washing them as little as possible adds life to your clothes, saves you money and wastes less water and electricity. And while kids are dirty and babies have diaper blowouts, spit-ups and the like, there are those magical days when even they don’t get their clothes dirty and they can be put away without being laundered. Keeping your kids clothes in good shape is great too, because they’ll be easier to sell on ebay, or at garage sales when they’ve outgrown them. Plus, who wouldn’t like to do less laundry?

Reusable Disposables
My mother had me young and was a single mom for many of my formative years. She put herself through school while raising me and did it by herself, so she’s learned a thing or two about being frugal and wasting less. One great technique that she came up with is washing diposable diaper wipes. I know it sounds crazy, but she just threw them in with the cloth diapers and then put them back in the container with a solution of Dr. Bronner’s, water and some tea tree oil.
